About Dr. Hedy Lee Kindler

Dr. Hedy Lee Kindler is well-known nationally and internationally as a top mesothelioma specialist. One of her main interests as a specialized physician is the development of new treatments through clinical trials.

As the director of the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Mesothelioma Program, she manages most of the clinical trials herself, and even has a hand in designing a few of them. Among the clinical trials she is currently running is a study testing the effectiveness of the immunotherapy drug erlotnib hydrochloride as a treatment for patients with peritoneal mesothelioma.

Dr. Kindler also has a personal stake in the study and treatment of mesothelioma. She became involved in mesothelioma research when her father passed away from the disease in 2001.

Her own research involves the development and testing of emerging mesothelioma treatment options, such as novel chemotherapy drugs, angiogenesis inhibitors and growth factor inhibitors.
